Book a session
Hey, I'm Martijn. I'm a Product Designer and Design Engineer, and I've been working in design and product for around 15 years. Along the way, I've designed and built products, led teams, run my own business, and worked with companies including AppSignal,
Picqer,
Just Eat,
SeatGeek,
Shopify,
Moneybird and
Homey.
I'm opening up a few parts of my calendar for anyone who wants to book a session with me. Over the years, I've noticed how useful it can be to simply have someone else look at what you're working on. Someone who isn't buried in the same project every day, who can ask different questions, challenge an idea, or help you see something you might have missed. That's really what these sessions are about.
For business owners and product teams
Maybe you're working on a new feature and want another perspective before you build it. Maybe you have a design that doesn't quite feel right, a product problem you've been going back and forth on, or an idea you'd like to talk through with someone outside your team.
Bring it. We can look at the product together, talk through the decisions you've made, and figure out where I think there might be opportunities to make it better. That could be about UX, interaction design, product strategy, design systems, or simply whether something makes sense from a user's perspective. It doesn't need to be polished or prepared either. Sometimes the most useful conversations happen while things are still messy.
For designers and students
When I started out, I didn't really have anyone around me who worked in design or tech. I taught myself front-end development when I was 14 using books from the local library, and figured out a lot of the rest as I went. Looking back, there were plenty of moments where it would have helped to have someone to ask: am I thinking about this the right way?
So if you're a designer or student and want to talk about your work, your portfolio, your career, an interview, a project you're stuck on, or what you should learn next, I'm happy to help. You don't need to come with a perfectly formulated question. We can just talk and see where it goes.
Curious about how I work with AI?
This is probably one of the things people ask me about most at the moment. AI has become a big part of how I work, not just for generating ideas, but throughout the process of understanding a product, exploring solutions, designing, prototyping and actually building things.
For me, the interesting part is how much closer design and building are becoming. So if you're curious about how I use AI in practice, which tools I use, what works for me, what doesn't, or how I think it changes the role of a designer, that can be the whole session too. I'm happy to show you how I work and talk through what I've learned so far.
Let's talk
There's no fixed agenda or promised outcome. Bring a product, a design, a question, a career decision, or just something you're curious about. You can book a time slot with me and we'll take it from there.
And because I've just started freelancing again, all sessions booked in September are free.
